High-Performance Athletic T-Shirt

The Challenge
“Create athletic wear that keeps athletes cool and dry during intense physical activity.”

University of Moratuwa’s textile research team needed to develop a T-shirt fabric that could simultaneously manage heat absorption and moisture transfer for optimal athletic performance in tropical climates.
Our Innovation Journey
1
Understanding Thermoregulation Science
Athletes generate significant heat during exercise. The key is creating fabrics that can absorb excess heat while efficiently wicking moisture away from the skin to maintain optimal body temperature.
2
Phase Change Material Integration
We incorporated microencapsulated PCM into yarn structures. These materials absorb heat when body temperature rises and release it when cooling is needed, creating an active thermal regulation system.
3
Moisture Management Architecture
Combined specialized fiber cross-sections with hydrophobic-hydrophilic treatments to create rapid moisture transport from skin to fabric surface for enhanced evaporation.
