Annie Kwok’s journey into functional textiles began not in a boardroom, but on a bike trail.

As an avid cyclist, Annie knew the discomfort of clothing that stayed wet, held odor and failed to perform when the body was working hardest. The experience left her with a question that would later shape Annie’s Smartex:

Why should people have to adapt to the limitations of their clothing when better materials could be created around their real needs?

With years of experience in Taiwan’s advanced textile industry, Annie understood that solving this problem required more than adding a fashionable claim to a finished fabric. Meaningful performance had to begin deeper in the material—from functional powders and masterbatch technology to fibers, yarns and carefully engineered fabric structures.

In 2019, she founded Annie’s Smartex in Shanghai with a clear purpose: to connect material science with real human needs and help textile businesses turn functional technologies into products that genuinely perform.

Since then, Smartex has grown from one cyclist’s search for a better wearing experience into a functional-material commercialization partner serving brands, manufacturers and textile developers around the world.
