The Challenge
“We’re building a one-bag travel shirt that wears fresh for three days straight. A direct-to-consumer travel apparel brand was developing their flagship “3-Day Shirt” — a lightweight, packable top designed for business travelers, backpackers, and minimalist commuters who refuse to overpack. Their target customer wears the same shirt across multiple days, time zones, and activity levels: a morning meeting, an afternoon city walk, an evening dinner. Their existing fabric used a surface-applied silver-ion antimicrobial finish that passed lab tests but failed real-world wear: by day two, heavy sweat odor — the kind that standard deodorant-based antimicrobials cannot neutralize — had already set in.
